| dc.description.lawtext | § 2. If any person shall shoot off a gun or pistol within the corporate limits of said town, it shall be the duty of the trustees and officers of said town to report the fact to the police judge, who shall forthwith have the person so offending arrested and brought before him for trial, and, on conviction of the offense, shall be fined by said judge in a sum not to exceed ten dollars, and a forfeiture to said town of the gun or pistol so used. In the event a forfeiture shall be adjudged, it shall be the duty of said judge to have the gun or pistol so used sold at public auction, and the proceeds thereof shall be paid into the treasury of said town. If no trustee or officer of the town shall, within three days from the commission of the offense, give information thereof to the police judge as above provided, then any of the citizens of said town shall have permission to do so, and the person so informing shall be entitled to receive one half of any fine imposed upon the offender, and one half of any sum for which the gun or pistol may be sold. | |
| dc.description.summary | This ordinance mandates the arrest and prosecution of any individual who discharges a firearm within town limits, carrying a fine of up to $10. In addition to the fine, the weapon used is subject to mandatory forfeiture and sale at public auction, with the proceeds directed to the town treasury. The law incentivizes enforcement by allowing private citizens to report violations if town officers fail to do so within three days, rewarding such informants with half of both the collected fine and the firearm's sale proceeds. | |
